Syrian government forces backed by their allies, have taken control of a major town from foreign-backed militants in idlib province. the capture of al hobeit is the most significant advancement the Syrian army has made in idlib since the beginning of an offensive three months ago. the area has escaped control of the Damascus govt since 2015 and is a stronghold for al qaida linked militants and other armed groups. Damascus offered a truce but several groups including nusra front rejected that. In a different development, Ankara and Washington are also planning to create a safe zone in northern Syria.
