I'm pretty sure ahlul bayt have many hadiths condemning people who charge for spreading the message of karbala especially people who take it as a job or occupation. A shaykh once said even if you can argue for it and definitely is not what is recommended and definitely something looked down upon.

Where I live, the standard of successful Majlis is: how many Nara e Haidery are in the Majlis & how long a Zakir can recite successful mossaibs? Successful mossaib means good donations.

It's not those greedy scholars fault. Imambargah managements who invite them are the one who should be blamed. Simply boycott them.
These managements wants someone who can make their audience cry in Muharrum with his tricky words. so they pay them whatever they demand.
Muslims especially Mohib (not Shia)forgot why Hussain AS sacrificed his life!
