On the way to Mena, two miles from the Holy City of Mecca, on Jabl an-Nur is the Cave of Hera, a small opening about 3.5 meters long and a little over 1.5 meters wide. Here Prophet Muhammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny) used to pray to the One and Only God and meditate in solitude away from the polytheist society of Arabia. Here, on the 27th of Rajab in 609 AD, he received the first divine revelation through the Archangel Gabriel and was commanded to formally declare his mission as the Last and Final Messenger of God.
