Tension is escalating after a Turkish military convoy entered northwest Syria on Monday. The Syrian government reacted angrily after the convoy entered Idlib province and headed towards khan sheikhun, a key town where government forces are fighting fierce battles with foreign-backed militants. After eight years of war, Idlib, which is on the border with Turkey, is the militants’ last major stronghold. Russian President Vladimir Putin says Moscow supports the Syrian army operation against “terrorists” in Idlib.
